“Atlanta Sichuan China Earthquake Relief Fund Raising Charity Event” May 31, 2008, Saturday, at Chinese Culture Center, 5377 New Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30341.
Chinese from Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other places together, will hold a fund raising event for the victims of the recent China earthquake on May 31, 2008, Saturday, 8:00 P.M. to 12:00 P.M., at Chinese Culture Center, 5377 New Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30341.
Together the participants will express their deep sorrows and to raise fund for the victims’ relief. The most up-to-date fund raising result will also be published and the donors will be recognized.
The organizing committee for this event met on May 20, 2008, from 8:00 P.M. to 12:00 P.M., at 101 Café. Nearly fifty groups representing Chinese from both sides of the Taiwan strait and Hong Kong were present at the said meeting. Detailed plan for this event were finalized among spirited discussion.
This earthquake, ranked as 8.0 Richter scale, devastated one of the most populated provinces of China, took a death toll of nearly fifty thousand, injured over a quarter of million people. The affected areas include the world renowned scenic A Ba Autonomy Region and Jiu Zhai Gou, Du Jian Yan, a historical irrigation project and an region specifically designated for the preservation of Panda bears. The destruction of these areas is truly beyond the power of written words.
The natural disaster also provoked overwhelming reaction from the people in and out of China. Chinese living the metro Atlanta area are no exception. This event is only one of many fund raising events planned. Quite a few of such events had already taken place and substantial fund was raised.
Donors are encouraged to give their donations to the non-profit 501 C (3) organizations of their preference, e.g. Tzu Chi Foundation, CCC, China Earthquake Relief Fund Committee (lead by CBAA with other 29 organizations), or Chinese Church.
The party charges $10 per person, which will be counted as donation for the relief fund. Powerful and touching performance will express the audience’s collective emotions and uplift the spirit of the participants.
