Hello table tennis boys, girls and parents,
This is Lao Jin, Ethan’s Dad. Some of you may
already know that we will have a tournament on April/7. This is the tournament only
for boys and girls. I think I need to write something why our boys and girls
should play this tournament.
I am glad that there are more and more kids start to
learn table tennis. Some of them have even reached high level. Thanks for all
coaches’ hard working and parents supports. As parents, we all expect rewards
after years of money spending and training. Although, our kids start taken home
medals form local tournaments including GA game. It is really hard to know how
much these local rewords will help for future college application.
On the other hand, I have not seen our boys earned medals
at National level for years. The US Nationals--- the most important tournament
for America boys and girls is one clear example. Last year, some of our best
trained boys went to US national to compete. However, results are very bad.
Except Ethan (made into Junior National B Team), rest of boys were all lost
badly. Most of them lost their game from first or second round of single elimination.
They are not even close to make to the top 8 or 12 in their each age group. I
am sure these parents are not very happy.
Why after all these years training, money spending,
our boys still cannot compete with other boys from different states? For
example, if we compare same age group of kids between GA and CA, some of our
kids have spent same amount of training time as compared with them; yet, we still
cannot compete with them? Something is wrong!
If you let you kid to train 4 times each week for three
or four years, you may think your kid is read to bring home medals from big
tournaments. Well, think it again. Based on my experience, this is not going to
work. Training is important, but play game between kids is also important. After
all these years, it is hard to understand why our kids do not practice and paly
game each other? Kids only go to local club to play with adults. There are no
local tournaments only for kids. It is very important to know there are many
differences between boys and adults. The speed, spin and power are all
different. Furthermore, Adult player usually do not attack often when they play
with young boys. So our boys cannot practice their blocking skills when play
with adult players. Because our kids so use to adult’s stale, when they play
with well-trained kids from other states, they cannot adapt quickly to fight a
player who has same speed (even fast than you), spin and power. Also our boys cannot block well to win points
if they attack first. This is why our kids need to practice and play game each
other.
So please support your kids to play the Lucky Shoals
kids tournament on April 7. Thanks.
Lao Jin.
